Sporting Guantanamo Report

The 3/3/2010 will go down in the club's history as the day of Sporting Guantanamo’s first victory. The 12 – 7 score line was a fitting result, in a game that Guantanamo dominated from the start.

Luke Turner was in brilliant form with a massive 6 goals to his credit and a man of the match performance. It was his powerful right foot and Thank U Ten’s silky skills, that Guantanamo got off to a lightening fast start going 4 – 0 up within the first 10 minutes.

At this stage FC Hobbits were on the ropes, but they managed to turn their bad start around and fought back kicking two quick goals. This did nothing to dampen the Sporting attack with Tim Gray, Thank U Ten and new Scottish Super Signing Martin Whittaker all contributing to the score sheet. By the end of the first half it was Sporting up 7 – 4.

The second half started badly for Sporting with Hobbits kicking two quick goals. With some strategic substitutions and sublime personal efforts by Jackson Cordingley, Sporting managed to regain their dominance. Cordingley had played well all night and was extremely unlucky not to score with three cracking shots all hitting the bar; it seemed that the goal gods where against him all night. Along with Cordingleys efforts, the Reggae king of Guantanamo Terry Ragoonanan was proving why he is regarded as Sportings most improved. Big T was unlucky not to score and used his body well to frustrate the opposition.

The Guantanamo stalwarts Hingston, Gray and Smyth proved to be as reliable as always and showed how dedication, sportsmanship and experience are the backbone of this new and exciting Guantanamo franchise. Hingston has stepped up to the midfield this year and is meeting the challenge with much enthusiasm. Gray has started to find his goal scoring feet and is proving to be a role model for middle aged red heads everywhere.

The Sporting Guantanamo backline managed to hold up well for most of the night with Captain Andy Smyth providing a wall of Orange and new signing Seby Parasilliti beginning to emulate ‘The Rocks’ legendary status. His signing this season has brought a new level of confidence to the Sporting outfit as they forge their way forward into the great unknown that is the B-Liga.

Next week Sporting play Jiminies and with a victory Sporting could enter the top four.

Racing Guantanamo Report

Racing Guantanamo continued their powerhouse start to the season with a convincing win against Cardiff City in Round 2.

With the new players starting to slot into their positions, and the team solidifying their hold in defence, the Mighty Orange look more and more like the team to beat.

Excellent performances from Martin Kessler and Raiko Kiudmaa in midfield, as well as a goalscoring feast from Singo up front saw Guantanamo capitlise on a slow Cardiff start.

Gareth Vickery in goals performed well as the team pushed forward with intent every time they got the ball.
A couple of hiccups in defence allowed Cardiff to slip through, but overall the Guantanamo players had most of the possession.

Captain Ryan Platten marshalled the troops well, and Ben Jones managed to pick up his first goal for the Mighty Orange since signing last year. Indeed, Jones looked extremely dangerous on the ball and was unlucky to end up with only one.
