Francois Kruger (Left) accepts his induction into the Hall of Legends from captain Andy Smyth

Francois Kruger

Country: South Africa
Position: Goalkeeper
Appearances: 46

Francois Kruger was the epitome of calm under pressure as the legendary goalkeeper produced some of the finest games ever seen in Broome soccer.

He did not start out between the sticks however, preferring a wide position in his first few games for the Mighty Orange. Indeed, he managed to score one of the greatest goals ever seen in Broome when he scored from near on halfway with a volley in the 2008 St Patrick's Day match. Seeing his quick reflexes though, prompted Guantanamo to try him in goals, and they never looked back.

Winning the 2007 B-Liga ABC Player of the Year award, and then following it up with the 2008 Broomedesliga Goalkeeper of the Year award, the South African is one of the most decorated players in Broome soccer.

Dubbed "The Rock" for his solid presence, Kruger also holds the third most appearances for Guantanamo having joined the club in its inception.

Kruger made his last appearance in a Guantanamo shirt in the first ever Guantanamo Derby, helping both Sporting and Racing in alternate halves to contest the "Kruger Bowl".

He retired in 2010 to spend more time with his wife and family.
